For approximately 84 years the Tea hut at high beech has been serving us with tea’s coffee and light refreshments. It has been one of the few places that has always welcomed bikers with open arms and over the decades has become a focus point for the local and wider spread biker community. Not just focusing solely on bikers though a wide range people from our local area and further afield have become regulars at the tea hut and all enjoyed the unique atmosphere and become part of this individual community. People from all walks of life have made lifelong friends and acquaintances here ranging from Turner prize winners to local tradesmen and from Barristers to butchers all using this unique facility and enjoying the forest for years.
Now, in what can only be perceived as a bid for profit at best or a direct judgemental attack on the “type” of people that frequent the forest the City of London or Corporation as many know it are now at short notice informing the current tenant that his tender is to be thrown out to all and his licence is not to be renewed.
New establishments that have refurbished at incredible and outrageous cost in a flamboyant show of funds for the Olympics now not only have to pay rent but also share profits with the business that has been entrusted by parliamentary act to manage the forest on our behalf. Well is it on behalf of the thousands of bikers and people that frequent the bikers tea hut or is it in the interests of profit and outright discrimination towards a “type” of people, a people who are a community?
This site will be added to over the coming weeks so please keep checking in for updates.
